My First Ballet

Yesterday Freyja and I had a girls outing to watch My First Ballet - Sleeping Beauty.

It was a ballet, by dancers from the English National Ballet School, aimed at young children.  It's such a fabulous idea because so many girls love ballet but for a young child to sit through a full length ballet is a lot to expect (I love the ballet but I still start getting twitchy by the end...).

This was perfectly pitched for it's young audience.  It was very accessible, with the story and the actions of the dancers narrated by one of the characters.  Freyja was awestruck by the beautiful ballerinas - she loved the lilac fairy and, of course, Princess Aurora.

I will definitely look out for more of these to take Freyja to.  Though I still can't wait until she is old enough to come and watch the Nutcracker with me one Christmas.

All go here...

We are sitting!  Just like that.  One day he kept flopping over, the next he could sit.

And we have two bottom teeth!  They came through this morning, little bit of grouchy behaviour.  Goodbye to that gummy smile. Sob.

It will be crawling next.  Stop time now, please!

Wonky Creases

On Thursday, Noah and I headed up to the Evelina Children's Hospital to have his hips X-rayed.  He has uneven creases, particularly under his bottom, and apparently this can be a sign of hip dysplasia.

Fortunately, Noah's hips are perfectly fine.

I wasn't really worried, but it's good to have had it ruled out.  When I noticed how uneven his creases were I felt I couldn't just ignore it and hope that it was fine without actually getting it checked out.  Especially as, at 7 months, he still can't sit up by himself.

The GP had a look and agreed he was very wonky!  So I was referred and after a little to-ing and fro-ing an appointment was booked for him at the Evelina.

He was, as always, a little star.  He smiled and kept perfectly still during his X-ray.  And when the doctor checked him afterwards he was very calm and happy.  The doctor, was very decisive and reassuring.  He looked at the X-ray, he wriggled Noah's legs around, and then told me that all was fine and that I could draw a line under that little episode and forget all about it.

He said the good thing about leg creases is that they don't mean anything at all (unless they do).

Rare Night Out. New Dress Required.

I went out for a few hours with Adrian on Saturday night.  It was a cocktail party, and as I haven't been out for years, I had nothing to wear.  So Noah and I went shopping and I bought a gorgeous dress from French Connection, which I adore.

When I went downstairs after getting ready, Freyja looked at me and exclaimed 'Oh Mummy you look so pretty....can I try on your shoes....I love your necklace..'

Theo, however, looked me up and down for a few moments then wailed 'I don't want you to go out!!!'

I did go out, I had a lovely time.  And I now wish I had another occasion to wear my fab new dress.
