As of tomorrow, I will be the mother of two school children.  I just cannot quite get my head around the fact that Theo is starting school.  He's very ready -  he's bouncing off the walls with excitement and keeps checking that he doesn't have to go back to 'playgroup' anymore.  It just feels like it has come round so quickly.

When Freyja started, I remember feeling sad at the preschool phase of parenting being over, but also feeling that it was time for her to go.  With Theo, it feels like he is ready but I am not. It has come round way too quickly this time.

Freyja is struggling a little with end of summer/return to school blues this time.  We've had tears tonight and I just hope that she will be okay once she gets back into the swing of things.  She really does get herself worked up about little details - tonight, she is worried that she reads too quickly (!!) and also that she gets upset and her tummy hurts when other children get told off at school.  These are the things that she is focusing her anxieties on ahead of starting back.

We have done the school shoe shopping (at Gently Elephant in Brockley - just lovely!). Freyja is just half a size bigger than Theo now.  Theo has had a rather severe hair cut at the barber with his dad.  The uniforms have been bought (or handed down), labels ironed in (with Freyja's first name snipped off as I didn't get round to ordering new ones) or names biroed on (when I ran out of labels).  I still need to get a few bits - plimsolls for PE, new tights for Freyja.

I feel life will be a little easier with two children now at the same place, rather than three all at different stages.  Though quite how I'm going to cope with Freyja learning her times tables and Theo having to read and write I do not know.

you'll cope fine - obviously.

time tables are rubbish though - in my experience there's only way for them to learn and that's by repetition. Jacob hates them. However, I don't think they really start them properly until Juniors, so you've got a year's grace.

Oh good, Freyja is convinced it is this year!

I hate them too!
