Wallpaper for Boys

Something more fun now!

I am forever changing my mind about how I should decorate my children's bedrooms. I'm quite happy with them, but I'm always browsing for other ideas.

Recently I found this excellent wallpaper from the wonderful Rockett St George (I could buy nearly everything they stock...) This, however, I am not actually going to get because it's rather expensive and Theo's too young for it anyway.

But I love it. So it's going on my blog.

More appropriate for Theo now (though again, probably not something that I will actually ever get....) are these, by Ferm LIVING (stocked at Cloudberry Living):

I'm particularly keen on the 'Rush Hour' one. Theo has a gorgeous Dwell Studio blanket which I bought him from Lula Sapphire when he was born and I've been slightly in love with this sort of design ever since.
And here's one that Adrian would actually agree to as well. Cricket wallpaper (another one from Rockett St George):

Lovely!

I like the wall stickers on that website but I have to say that I don't get wallpaper as a concept. I have no problem wallpapering, I'm pretty good at it, I just can't help looking at bold patterns and thinking how quickly I'd go off them, and how much work it is to strip a wallpapered wall as opposed to painting a bare wall a different colour. I think I'm just too practical :) I remember having a discussion with Adrian a while ago where I said I could only buy truly practical items of furniture while the kids were small on the grounds that they'd ruin anything else - he was of the opposite opinion, I hasten to add :)

Oh I love wallpaper. A bit too much, probably...! Though I agree that for kids it could be a bit of pain as they can grow out of things quite quickly.

I do tend to go for the stuff I like rather than the practical. The kids are generally okay, though Theo is far more destructive than Freyja so if he'd been the 1st maybe I'd think differently. I have to watch him with the felt tips! But I'd rather just deal with any accidents and still get the stuff I like.

The walls are a state though, all around small-child-hand-height. But we have cunningly wallpapered our hallway only above the dado rail....!!

boys are terrible, take it from me! Its only a few months ago since Sam decided to colour a thick purple crayon line all the way up the wall of the stairs - if that was wallpaper, we'd be redecorating; as it is, I'm still going to have to repaint it as it didn't come off entirely.

I think I'm partially protecting myself and the boys by only buying practical stuff - I used to have some nice ornaments and pots that I'd picked up over the years and when some of them got smashed I got very upset and cross with whichever child was responsible. At least with stuff I'm not so attached to, I can cope with equanimity when its broken, weed on, drawn on or vomited over :)

That's not to say I don't buy stuff I don't like, its all just v v practical - maybe when they're grown up and left home I'll have wallpaper too :))

I have definitely noticed the increased level of destruction since having a boy!!!
