Home Sweet Home

I have just returned home from a disastrous trip out. It was my first real outing with both kids. It started well enough - I headed over to Harriet's for coffee then we set off for the park. Just as we were leaving, Harriet got a call from a neighbour who had locked herself out and by the time we made it to the park it was already lunch time. We were meeting some friends at the Italian cafe for lunch and though I knew I was pushing my luck in terms of Freyja's nap time I decided to go. Initial signs were good. Freyja ate a good lunch then sat down with her friend Ruby to draw. And then it just gradually descended into chaos. I was that mother whose toddler runs wild around the place, screaming defiantly and generally causing mayhem while the other diners mutter under their breath about parents who can't control their children. I ended up paying for my meal, strapping a screaming Freyja into her buggy, stuffing a now also screaming Theo into the sling and escaping to the pitying glances of my mum friends and the rather scornful stares of the other diners. All I needed was leaking milk from my breasts and vomit on my shoulder to complete the look of a harassed mother barely coping.

God, I'm glad to be home!

Poor old you. Nothing worse than feeling utterly fraught as a result of yer horrible children. When they both kick off, its a challenge, to say the least.

I'm v lucky in that Sam doesn't need a nap during the day now, it makes going out much easier to plan. I hated having to organise everything around nap time, but I guess you've got another couple of years of that still.....

Ah, the joys of motherhood.

Can't believe Sam doesn't nap any more - Freyja still has a minimum of 2 hours and will often go for 3 hours if I let her (which is tempting but I don't because I want her in bed by 7.30pm!)

It's great when I'm at home because I get some peace and quiet, but I do have to work my outings around her a bit.

I have managed to get both of them napping at the same time recently which has been great and gives me a chance to have a sleep too, but not sure how long it will last for!

He hasn't had a regular nap for about 8 months now. If he has a disturbed night/early start like last night/today, he'll sometimes just fall asleep (usually face down on the floor or in the car), but otherwise he soldiers on until bedtime. He has to be extremely tired during the day to play up, he's pretty even-tempered.

IIRC, Amy hasn't ever slept during the day except when she wasn't so well. I don't know how people manage to cope with non-sleeprs, its just so full-on without any respite until night-time.

Freyja goes a bit potty without a nap. She never used to nap during the day when she was a baby - it was really hard work getting her down and if I managed it she usually just had a short catnap. I'm still amazed that she's such a good napper now - I never thought she would ever be much of a sleeper but she's really good these days. Although recently she's been waking up in the night when Theo wakes up to be fed...
