Teething Pain

My lovely, giggly Freyja has been replaced by a little shouty monster. It's amazing how teething can turn them into such horrors. She's not been too bad with teething so far - a few disturbed nights and general grumpiness, but this time she really seems to having trouble. Oh, and what timing - right over Jason and Becs' wedding in Brighton.

Friday was okay - she was grumpy but soon cheered up with the help of crisps and champagne and lots of people to say 'cheers' to and hand out napkins.

Saturday was not so good, though she coped really well with it all, especially as even at the best of times she doesn't really like being fussed by people she doesn't know. I don't think most people really noticed that she wasn't on the best form, but I did feel bad for her because I don't think she was enjoying it all that much. She was very up and down - smiling one minute, bawling the next. And it was a little embarrassing when she hit an old lady who had leaned over to say hello. Luckily the woman's husband just asked her what on earth she had said to deserve a whack. I apologised and decided it was time to go.

We went back to the hotel to our gorgeous room with a massive bay window and king size bed. At 3am Freyja joined me and Adrian in bed and we spent the rest of the night clinging to the edge as she spreadeagled horizontally between us. She knows how to make herself comfortable.

Sunday was much the same - crying one minute, laughing the next. We did manage to have lunch out with everyone while Freyja was sleeping in her pushchair but once she woke up she let us know in no uncertain terms that she absolutely did not want to be there.

Poor little thing. It must be agony getting those back teeth through - she's learnt to say 'hurting' as a result of the last few days, but has not learnt that Dentinox and Calpol are good things and will stop the pain. She's been like this since since Friday. Yesterday morning was a complete disaster and I missed my train after delivering a bawling Freyja to Cathy's doorstep. Today has been better but she's still angry and grumpy.

She has picked up some bad habits in just a few days. These include almost constant use of her dummy, after having got her down to using it upstairs only, screaming when I try to clean her face, whining instead of saying what it is that she wants and then yelling when she doesn't get want she wants (because I haven't got a clue what it is she is after).

Anyway, here she is on Brighton beach. At least she loved the sea!

Poor little Freyja! What a shame that she doesn't seem to like the drugs. Yannick is taking those very happily, a bit too readily for my taste actually. But then he suffered really badly already with his first set of molars, maybe he understands that the medicine makes him feel better. How many teeth is Freyja still missing?

I think she has 16 - so still 4 more to go! I thought these were the last ones coming but now I actually think they were some towards the back that she had come through earlier this year that then just seemed to stop so they were really small, just breaking the skin. Well, I noticed today that they looked much bigger!

She used to love all the drugs but now she thinks we're trying to kill her when we give her any!

ahh, tantrums. Lovely. Jacob's started up again recently, just really losing it over little things. I think he's a bit anxious about going to nursery school after christmas.

I think Sam's back molars are starting to come through - his hands are constantly in his mouth atm and he's dribbling loads. Although he's got a streaming cold, so its difficult to tell whether the wet is coming from mouth or nose sometimes.

Freyja's been difficult for a week now and yesterday afternoon turned into a total nightmare. I don't think it's still teething, it seems to be linked to when she doesn't get her own way. Wonderful. Having said that, she's been a delight today - but she's alseep now and often wakes up in a foul mood...
