Freyja's Words

This post has taken me ages to write (partly because each day I delay I have new ones to add...) and will be boring to everyone except me and Adrian. Sorry.

Despite being quite late at starting to talk, it doesn't seem to have held her back at all. I just can't believe how quickly she acquires new words and starts using them regularly. I'm still finding the fact that we can talk to each other fascinating. She does say certain things to me over and over again that I have no idea what she means, but on the whole I can pretty much understand what she wants - even if it is usually 'telly' or 'biscuit'. She is also now putting words together as well - More Juice, Freyja Fall, Daddy's Nose etc.

I've listed as many as I can remember - they are words that she uses herself regularly (rather than words she understands but doesn't use, odd random words she has come out with only once or twice or words she repeats but doesn't use herself unprompted):

So here are Freyja's words, names and sounds:

Juice, Water, Milk, Drink, Dinner, Lunch, Food, Cheers, Thanks, Thank you, No Thanks, Please, Sorry, Mummy, Freyja, Daddy, Katie, Paul, Max, Harry, Nik, Doody, Mum, Dad, Nain, Afi, Oma, Grandpa, Cathy, Ben, Jack, Ruby, Mog, Apple, Banana, Pear, Orange, Pasta, Toast, Marmite, Butter, Carrot, Biscuit, Chocolate, Chips, Crisp, Cheese, Tea, Fish, Dinner, Chicken, Duck, Dog, Cat, Horsey, Mouse, Rabbit, Bear, Moo, Woof-woof, Quack, Meow, Bird, Fox, Bee, Poo, Wee, Potty, Paper, Itchy, Cream, Telly, Toys, Ball, Drawing, Pen, Page, Buggy, Baby, Fall, Wet, Hot, Cold, Dropped It, Come On, Bye, Hi, Hello, Night-Night, Dark, See You, Oh Dear, Door, Pop, Tick-Tock, Clock, Chair, Cup, Bib, Cut it, Yummy, Bin, Teeth, Hand, Feet, Tummy, Belly, Knee, Face, Eye, Ear, Nose, Hair, Coat, Shoes, Socks, Hat, Cot, Books, More, Up, Down, On, Carry, Finish, Open, Fixing, Push, Pull, Dance, Sit, Okay, This, Mine, Yours, Yes, No, Good Girl, One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Car, Plane, Choo Choo (train), Raining, Phone, Ring-Ring, Boo, Dummy, Hurting, Lala, Dipsy, Bubbles, Crab, Shark, Dolphin, Button, Zip

Isn't it just fun? :)
Yannick learnt a new word yesterday and surprisingly it was in English: hat! He picked this up from his Sing & Sign DVD. I can say whatever I want in German (hat or hood or whatever it really is he is talking about), he sticks firmly to English hat! So funny!

wow!!! I heard her on the phone the other day and was very impressed. I am of course disappointed that my name is not on the list. But on the other hand I am pleased with choo-choo. Actually on a mildly more serious note I'm impressed with the subtlety of "itchy" as apposed to using hurts. She's clearly a genius!!

Sam is still showing no signs of wanting to talk! Its just grunt, grunt, grunt and point. I'm not quite sure to make of it - the university are running a study on late talking toddlers, but their start age is 24 months, so I guess its not that uncommon.

I have to say that after this long wait, once he does start talking I'm expecting full sentences and perfect diction from the off!

I would like to go on the record and take all the credit for 'Toast' and 'Marmite' :)

Sylke - I saw your post about words when I was half way through writing this one. It is a great!

Alex - I'm impressed you read the list! She started using 'itchy' quite early on (before 'hurting') and it's a favourite. I do wonder if she really understands it, but she does seem to use it correctly. She's had loads more words since I wrote this - house, shower, bath, pyjamas, moon, sun, plate, fork, blue...!

Rowan - my brother didn't utter a word until he was two, but then spoke in sentences. He still communicates in grunts quite often though and he's 33! I'm sure it's just that Jacob has such a huge vocabulary that there's no need for Sam to bother!

Adrian - I forgot that Jim taught her 'booby'!!
