The Blackout Blind
I've probably mentioned a few times before that Freyja is not that great a sleeper. She does generally sleep through now, but we have to go into her a least couple of nights every week. Added to that, for about the last 3 months or so, getting her to actually go down at bedtime has been a nightmare. She used to be very good at going down at 7pm, but sometime around Easter, she stopped and it's been a battle ever since, sometimes taking up to an hour to get her to give up and go to sleep. She's definitely tired - it makes no difference if she has had no naps, one long nap, 2 short naps, 2 longs naps, it's 6.30pm, 7.30pm, 9.00pm, she just hasn't wanted to go to sleep. And no, I haven't done controlled crying, so yes, it's probably all my fault...
In the flat we had a blackout blind in her room. It cost £12 from Argos and sort of dimmed the room. We didn't have one here and her room has been very light at bedtime, which I didn't think was helping matters. On Saturday, we went to buy a new blackout blind. I now realise that all blackout blinds are not created equal. This one really does make her room dark. She has slept through for the last 2 nights, on Sunday morning she didn't wake up until 8.30am and it only took one visit to get her to sleep the last 2 nights, and tonight she went straight down.
I know it probably won't last, or something else will start up, but it's great for now!

Aaah, controlled crying... Nope, I don't think it's your fault at all as I've read many times that many children who had to go through this return to their previous sleep problems when a tooth comes out, another developmental stage is about, or the sleeping environment changes (like in your case). Some children sleep easily from an early age, others don't (like mine and yours apparently), but they learn over time. Have you ever read Elizabeth Pantley's No Cry Sleep Solutions for Toddlers? She has great tips on how to deal with things like this. And even if none of that works she puts it all into perspective and you don't feel like a failure because your child isn't sleeping through at a certain age. Not that you necessarily feel like one :) (I don't), but I think many mothers get so much outside pressure that they do.
Your new house looks great!

Thank you! We are very happy here and Freyja just loves having a garden.
I do have the no cry sleep solution though I only skimmed through it - I do really like it though and should dig it out again if Freyja's current good form doesn't last (which it won't!)
